BITSoftheBEACH: The Whip

The Whip was patented by WF Mangels of Coney Island, USA on February 15th 1915 and first appeared at the Pleasure Beach in 1921. Its original cost was $4,700.

The building surrounding the ride was designed by Fiona Thompson (daughter of Geoffrey) and it is now the only Whip left in Europe.

The ride was originally situated in the area in front of where Trauma Towers now stands and was moved to its present position in the early 1990s.

W.F. Mangels also designed Griffin's Magic Dragons ride (formerly the Fairy Whip) in The Beaver Creek kiddies area. This ride still stands today!

The ride on The Whip at times is not a smooth one particularly when the cars whip around the right hand side near to where the ride operator sits...but without doubt this remains a classic ride!
