The Dreamland Trust was set up to deliver a 21st-century
tourist attraction at Dreamland, based around the listed
Scenic Railway and Cinema building. Our proposals for
the world’s first amusement park of historic rides, that
will authentically recreate a thrilling seaside
amusement park from the past, are now well advanced with
the support of major stakeholders. These include Thanet
District Council, The Heritage Lottery Fund, Department
for Culture, Media and Sport, Kent County Council,
English Heritage and others.
Nick Laister, Chairman
Nick founded the Save Dreamland Campaign and was
instrumental in securing listed building status for the
Scenic Railway. Nick is a Chartered Town Planner and
Director at the UK's largest planning consultancy. He
works extensively within the visitor attractions
industry, advising several UK and international theme
park operators on planning and development matters. Nick
is also an author, founder of the website
joylandbooks.com and owner of Fairytale Farm, a visitor
attraction in Oxfordshire.
Susan Marsh MBE, Honorary Secretary
Susan became actively involved in the Save Dreamland
Campaign in 2003 and undertook the advocacy for the
Local Plan Public Inquiry. Susan brings extensive
knowledge and experience of community involvement in
planning matters, equality and diversity, not for profit
companies, charities and education.
Andrew Cannon, Honorary Treasurer
Andrew is a director and founding partner of Spurling
Cannon, a firm which has grown to become the largest
accountancy firm in Thanet. He has played an active role
in the local community with voluntary work and fund
raising for local causes directly, through Margate Round
Table, and more recently through the Spurling Cannon
Community Fund, created solely to support causes within
Kent.
Andrew Baker, Director
Andrew is a partner and heads up the litigation team at
Thanet and Canterbury law firm Boys and Maughan
Solicitors, which has been based in Margate for more
than 200 years. He has worked in Thanet for 21 years and
has been associated with the Trust since 2009. He has
been a Director of the Thanet and East Kent Chamber of
Commerce and still retains close ties with the Chamber.
He is a member and past Chairman of Margate Round Table,
through which he has been involved in fund raising and
community activities locally.
Malcolm Iley, Director
Malcolm is a lawyer and a former senior equity partner
in a major city law firm, was earlier a senior corporate
chief officer in local government, and now practises as
a consultant legal adviser to both the public and
private sector. He is a director of an urban
regeneration company giving strategic advice on
regeneration projects, and a director of one of the UK’s
leading private education companies, and formerly a
director and governor in higher and further education,
aviation, marine and television sectors.
Roger Joyce, Director
Qualified architect and principal of Roger Joyce
Associates, Roger is a member of the Executive Committee
of the Kent Building Preservation Trust, ICOMOS (UK)
committee for Education and Training, is on the Board of
Folkestone Town Centre Management and has been a Civic
Trust Assessor since 2009.
Emma Liddiard, Director
Emma is Chairman of the Kent Institute of Directors and
Managing Director of Heart Radio in Kent, part of the
UK’s premier radio company, Global, which also delivers
Classic FM, LBC, Capital, XFM, Gold, Capital Xtra and
Smooth. Heart works with Kent's major tourist
attractions on and off air and, having decades of family
from Kent, Emma is passionate see Dreamland reopened and
to relive childhood holiday memories.
