In January 2003 the owner of Dreamland, Jimmy Godden, announced the closure of Dreamland. The park is to be redeveloped as "leisure boxes, some retail and a supermarket". Joyland Books will provide updates on the campaign to save Dreamland and its internationally-important Scenic Railway ride. Click here for the latest news Thursday, 22 February 2007 Dreamland-related news appeared in the Thanet Extra on 16 February. Friday, 16 February 2007 Campaign Leader Nick Laister met with the Margate Renewal Partnership today to discuss the future of Dreamland. The meeting was also attended by representatives of Thanet District Council and Locum Consulting. This was a follow up to the meeting held on 15 January. The Margate Renewal Partnership brings together public sector partners to secure the regeneration of Margate. The Partnership, chaired by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) Chief Executive, Pam Alexander, was established in 2006 and includes representatives from Thanet District Council, Kent County Council, Arts Council England, English Heritage, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Government Office for the South East and SEEDA. In other news, there has been much media coverage of Waterbridge's public consultation on Dreamland over the past few weeks. The Thanet Adscene on 6 February announced the drawing up of plans for the future of Dreamland. Also on 6 February, the Thanet Times featured the public consultation on Dreamland. The Isle of Thanet Gazette on 9 February reported Waterbridge's plans to buy the Arlington site adjacent to Dreamland. The Isle of Thanet Gazette on 9 February also included a huge article on the Dreamland consultation, including a report of the event and comments from the public, the Save Dreamland Campaign and the Gazette itself. Tuesday, 13 February 2007 A report of last week's public consultation exercise on the future of Dreamland, organised by Margate Town Centre Regeneration Company, has been added to the Save Dreamland website.
