Originally published in 1946, this
second edition collector's item is a very rare book about the history of
circus and fairground.
The cover notes state: "It
is a fascinating record of the evolution, history and traditions
of the English Circus and Fair Ground by an author who has had an
intimate experience of its picturesque life. He has travelled his
own circus and met the outstanding personalities of its colourful
world. Sir Garrard is also a noted breeder and trainer of wild
animals and owner of one of the most famous private zoos in the
country. He was Mayor of Maidstone for many years and offers a
vast store of entertaining reminiscences."
Condition:
The dust jacket is missing. Internally the book is in good condition, with some
general yellowing, which is expected of a book of this age.
There is some loosening of the spine in places, but it remains
intact. Click on the photo above for a close-up of the cover showing its
condition. |
