Steam arrived on the fair. While
its first applications were primitive, through men like Frederick
Savage that 'genius' roundabout builder from King's Lynn, it soon
developed to give the fairground what has been called its 'golden
age'.
As well as the rides, there were
the giant locomotives which could provide the power to move the
heaviest loads from place to place and the, through their
generators and later the miracle of electricity, actually drive
the rides on the fairground.
