GRAEME CASSIDY'S GREAT YARMOUTH CHRONICLES PAGE 7 OF 7

And when all was done, I would head north for the night, back to the holiday camp.

And whilst my memory does just that, my current-day self turns round, and begins the long walk back to the Pleasure Beach (and the car)...This time walking right by the beachside.

I ended my 2005 trip by driving north, parking and buying an ice cream outside the holiday camp I visited so many moons ago.

Here, it had forged an impression in my young mind that Great Yarmouth was the ultimate destination on Earth.

The promenade was impossibly long, wide and full of more activity than I could ever see.

It had been a day of nostalgia.

I left grateful that Great Yarmouth is so close to me. It’s full of vulgarity, but also so much to do. It really is the jewel of the east.

I doubt I will ever understand Great Yarmouth in its entirety, or know all its secrets in detail. But then, who does?

Maybe that’s why I love it so much!
