At a cost of £100,000 The Monorail was officially opened in 1967.
Originally purchased from
the 1964-5 Worlds Fair in Lausanne, Switzerland where it gave visitors a taste of 'transport in the future', the monorail
system has since been employed to carry people around the amusement park some 40 feet up in the air, giving passengers a birds
eye view of the activity and rides below.
Each of the four trains (that hold 60 passengers each) take passengers over a mile around the Park.
The Park operates fully covered, partially covered and completely uncovered (above) trains, depending on the weather.
In 2004 Blackpool Pleasure
Beach '60's icon' Monorail train went digital with a new drive conversion from WYKO
WYKO Electro Mechanical Services (EMS) designed and supplied a brand new drive control system to help ensure one of Blackpool Pleasure Beach's oldest and still most popular attractions will continue to operate well into the future.
