The Pleasure Beach Express (formerly the
Miniature Railway) was built in 1933 by Joseph Emberton and Charles Paige. It has a 21 inch
gauge track.
In 1970 the station built by Emberton was replaced by one that was designed in the traditional style of LMS stations from 1920s Victorian England.
The ticket collections box and the station furniture too are copies from this period.
Now retired, "Little Teddy" Askey, the driver, was as famous as the ride itself.
The trains running are Carol Jean (Baltic Class 4-6-4), Princess Royal (Pacific Class 4-6-4) and Mary Louise (Pacific Class 4-6-2).
Another engine, Barbie was added in 2001.
In the 2002 season, the trains had been making the journey in an anti-clockwise direction thus finishing the ride going through the 'Land of the Dinosaurs'.
There was much rubble prior to entering this 'dinosaur' part of the ride due to work being carried out on the BIG BLUE HOTEL being built at the South entrance.
July 2003 and The Big Blue Hotel is complete.
June 2004 and The Pleasure Beach
Express continues to make the journey in an anti-clockwise direction.
