In 1973 The Tom Sawyer ride
(a slow moving log raft ride) was introduced. It was labelled (by the Pleasure Beach management) as "the longest ride in the world" (said to be a quoted by an American visitor to the park to Geoffrey Thompson after alighting).
The ride lasted 20 years until The Pepsi Max Big One was being
built. I mention this only as The Swamp Buggies now occupy some of the area that The Tom Sawyer Ride once occupied.
Safety jackets are provided - it's basically The Dodgems in
water!
Going back further in time,
the Swamp Buggies were situated in the spot that the now defunct Speed Boats once occupied in front of the now defunct Fun House.
Confused yet?
Today, Spin Doctor occupies some of the Swamp Buggy space either side of the Tom Sawyer Bridge.
