Roller Coasters

The Devil's Chute roller coaster is nearing completion. The following pictures illustrate very well the complex nature of the structure.

This Orton & Spooner roller coaster was destined for the amusement park at New Brighton.

Ghost Trains

This is a typical post war Ghost Train design by Sid Howell. Although painted on a flat surface, a skilful use of perspective gives the illusion of depth.

This photograph illustrates very well the amount of detail that Sid painted on the Ghost Train panels. The wood-grain effect on the doors, the hat, hair style and dress of the young lady passing through the open door. It is doubtful whether the average person at the fair ever appreciated the amount of skill that had gone into the painting.

A Noah's Ark (Jungle Ride) during construction in the Orton & Spooner Erecting Sheds some time in the early 1930s. Albert Howell's work is much in evidence here.
