About
Martin Parr Martin
Parr is a leading figure in British
and world photography, and recognised as a brilliant satirist of contemporary
life. His recent books include the
‘Boring Postcards’ series (pub. Phaidon 1999 & 2000; the English Boring
Postcards features a small selection of Hinde postcards), ‘Collected Works’
(pub. Phaidon alongside touring retrospective, opening at Barbican Art Gallery
Jan 2002), ‘Think of England’ (pub. Phaidon 2000) and ‘Autoportraits’
(pub. Dewi Lewis, 2000). Parr is a member of Magnum Photos.
Parr
was the first person to take an interest in Hinde’s contribution to British
photography. His research and
efforts led directly to the Irish Museum of Modern Art Dublin exhibition. In his
introduction to the book, he explains the history of Butlin’s and tells the
story of his discovery of the work from a personal perspective.
