She
has worked at Hull School of Architecture, was a research fellow at
the University of Birmingham and wrote the history of Ormesby Hall,
Middlesborough, for the National Trust. Other published works include
The Organisation of the Energy Industry and The Architectural and
Social History of Cooperative Living (both Macmillan), and The
Northumbrian Pub: An Architectural History (Sandhill Press, Warkworth),
as well as many articles in specialist journals.
Her main professional interests are
seaside pleasure buildings, the development of seaside resorts, the
history of fairgrounds and amusement machines, and the architectural
history of pubs, breweries and sports buildings. Leisure pursuits
include playing hockey and golf, running half marathons in summer
sunshine, being taken for walks by her dogs and relaxing in pleasure
buildings.
