Vanessa Toulmin, of the National Fairground
Archive (University of Sheffield), presents a comprehensive account of the first Bioscope
showman, Randall Williams, with much new information. Williams travelled the fairs with a
Ghost Show in the 1870s-90s, eventually converting to a Bioscope show. He was perhaps the
most famous exhibitor of his day, described by his contemporaries as the King of Showmen. |
