Robert Nicholls was born in 1952 in
Sheffield where he was educated at High Storrs Grammar School. He subsequently attended
Reading University and graduated in Estate Management. In 1973 he moved to Manchester
where he has held various professional posts within local government. At present he works
as an estate surveyor with Manchester Airport PLC. The
author is interested in local history, railway and canal history with particular emphasis
on related economic development and land use changes. In 1985, his first book Manchester's
Narrow Gauge Railways dealing with the light railways of the Chat Moss and Carrington
Moss areas, was published by the Narrow Gauge Railway Society. As well as contributing
articles for magazines on railway and local history, he also addresses local history
societies from time to time. |
