From
humble origins as a small farming and fishing village Skegness has
developed into the premier holiday resort on the east coast of
England.
Largely using the photographic archive of the Skegness Standard -
the main local newspaper - Skegness Past traces the history of the
resort and the surrounding area from the end of the 19th century
through to the year 2000.The
photographs and captions illustrate a compelling story - including
high points, such as the coming of the railway, the development of
the town's foreshore, and the impact of famous entrepreneur Billy
Butlin, and low points such as the tragic 1953 East Coast Floods.
Many readers will be able to see pictures of their ancestors - or
even spot themselves when they were younger!
