This is an original Chipperfields
Circus book of tickets, which would have been used by the circus to
give to people who had assisted them, or to VIPs. The tickets admit
two persons to a 60p seat.
The year in which Chipperfield's Circus charged 60p per seat is
likely to be in the early 1970s. Decimal currency was introduced in
the UK on 15 February 1971, and prices like "60p" became standard
afterward. During this period, inflation meant that such prices were
common for entertainment venues. A price of 60p suggests it was
relatively affordable, which aligns with the early to mid-1970s.
This is a rare piece of circus
history.
The tickets cannot be used to
access any current circus performances.
Condition: Good condition. 19
tickets remain in the booklet, with all the others removed. The
staples holding the ticket book together are rusty due to age, but
still fully intact. Click photo above for a close-up.
