Once a mecca for the elite and world
travellers, Coney Island started its slow decline with the opening of the subway in 1920
and the lower income people who swarmed in. The decay was becoming more evident in the
period covered by this tape. But the 'Empire of the Nickel' was still the grandest show
around. This second presentation of Coney from 1936
to 1954 is seen by filmmakers from a variety of viewpoints, including extensive colour
footage of the amusement park and its rides in the 1950s.
This is another fine collection of vintage footage of the
most famous amusement park in the world.
