From the back sleeve:
"A documentary using rare archive
films, dating back from the late Nineteenth Century up to the early
Seventies. Narrated by Dennis McCarthy MBE, telling the story of
Nottingham Goose Fair.
Starting with the fair at the
Old Market Square and then moving to the Forest Recreation Ground,
where period showmen's transport and their loads are seen pulling
on, with marques such as ERF, Foden, Leyland and Scammell. Including
scenes of the rides being built up and pulled down.
A fantastic variety of rides are
seen in action by ay and night, many no longer in existence, like
the Wiggle Woggle. More modern rides include the big wheels,
cakewalk, calypso, caterpillar, dodgems, gallopers, jets, octopus,
satellite and steam yachts.
Plus the side shows that greatly
contribute to the unique atmosphere of the fairground, such as the
menagerie, boxing booth and wall of death. Together with the ornate
juveniles including the autodrome, mini jets and toyset."
