The tradition of the
fair is living and dynamic and reflects the influence of the
popular culture in which it operates. Pleasurelands celebrates the
essential ingredients that have enabled the travelling fairground
industry to survive for the past eight hundred years. It shows a
tradition still very much alive.
Pleasurelands comprises four
extensive essays by Dr. Vanessa Toulmin, (Director of the National
Fairground Archive, University of Sheffield): Spectacle,
Experience, Illusion, and Reality. With 100 black and white
photographs, and a 16-page colour section.
Condition: Very good. (Click on cover image to see close-up of
