Coney Island was
the basis for this very rare tactile paper book,
which formed part of a series of similar
booklets by Gilbert Paper. The premise behind
the booklet is to ask: "Why does Coney still
exist and why do we still find it so
interesting?". The booklet investigates what
remains of the 'old' Coney Island, its amusement
parks and rides. What we discover is that Coney
is a surreal place but ironically one of the
last real places left in New York. The last line
of the text reads: “…gritty, tough and real, no
Disneyland.”
Fascinating and
beautifully designed.
