The
Scammell Showtrac was one of the few purpose made vehicles built for
travelling showmen. Working with Sydney Harrison, Scammell Motors of
Watford first began to develop the prototype just after the Second
World War. In all eighteen were built and supplied to showmen. Most
were fitted with the stylish coach-built bodies, housing the dynamo
and winch, but each had its own character.
Today all but one of these vehicles
survives, but the purpose of this book is to show them all at work,
when they hauled the loads, generated for the rides and manoeuvred
the trucks on the grounds.
