The Grand Prix was originally called The Turnpike and was
40 years old in 2003. Arrow Engineering designed the ride which follows
a twisting turning course through the heart of The Pleasure Beach.
By July 25th 2003 the ride had undergone a revamp...new cars and electrification. The ride is now sponsored by Jordan and was unveiled to the waiting public by rookie F1 driver Ralph Firman.
Prior to officially 'reopening'
The Grand Prix, Ralph Firman put aside his fears and took a ride on The Pepsi Max Big One.
...But it was no ordinary ride...
The 28-year-old climbed into an EJ11 Jordan car which had been bolted onto a stripped down carriage of the 'Big One' for a publicity stunt!
24/8/03: If any of you out there
wish to purchase one of the old Grand Prix cars, you can! Just ask at Guest Relations! (I'm unsure as to how much they
cost though!)
On a more serious note Ralph Firman was involved in a bad crash during a Grand Prix race in August 2003. He was lucky to escape with his life.
