A distinctly Victorian development - they first entertained seaside holiday makers in 1875. Featuring the ups and downs of Britain's cliff lifts. Nearly all of them are seen and archive footage is used to show older cars in service.

Locations include:

•Bristol Clifton Rocks
•Folkestone (Had 4)
•Hastings (Has 2 Lifts)
•Lynton - Lynmouth
•Llwyngwern (1973)
•Margate (Closed 1970)
•Scarborough (Had 4)
•Shipley Glen

Also seen - seaside vertical lifts at Brighton, Ramsgate, Margate, and Whitby. We visit Clifton Rocks which closed in 1934, with four tracks and cables still in position.
