Thirty-five years after Disneyland’s opening day, the magical park entered the eighties. It was a new era that allowed Imagineers to further expand their talent.

Within the land of Critter Country, previously Bear Country, a new 87 feet mountain with a 52 feet drop was added, that of Splash Mountain. Guest could cool off down the 47 degree angle of the fall at an impressive 40 miles an hour.

The Renaissance-style façade was taken down from Fantasyland and replaced with Bavarian-style architecture and a new attraction replaced the Mickey Mouse Theater: Pinocchio’s Daring Journey.

And off to the right in Tomorrowland two new innovative attractions were unveiled, both from director George Lucas: Star Tours, featuring the cast from Star Wars, and Captain EO staring the eighties icon, Michael Jackson.
