Two great programmes on one DVD.
Painting the Town. Come to the
historic old town of Leigh on Sea at the mouth of the Thames
estuary. In the company of Essex artist John Fryer, discover some of
the history of this ancient fishing village. Listen to some of the
stories that have grown up around the town over the centuries. This
programme is a relaxing mix of local stories, archive film,
photographs and a few painting tips as well.
Southend Safari takes you on a
tour of the busiest town in Essex, looking at the astonishing
variety and wealth of its wildlife. See Belfairs Nature Reserve, the
first in the country, with its rich plant life and mysterious fungi,
the Belton Hills, with its flowers and butterflies, the wonderful
ancient hedgerows of Edwards Hall Park and, of course, the wildlife
of the mudflats and saltings. You'll discover surprising features of
interest in Southend parks, gardens, roadside verges, churchyards
and even waste ground. The safari ends with a visit to a town garden
to see how it can be turned into a haven for wildlife.
