The Seaside Pier is a well loved
feature of many resorts. Some of them had a railway line running to
the end initially to move luggage from steamers - then passengers.
This DVD takes a look at piers around the country and features film
of these still operating and those that have passed into history.
Extensive sequences on Ryde, Southend, Hythe, Southport and film of
Walton, Ramsey & Blackpool's North Pier.
Some piers had wooden
scenic railways on or near by, and miniature railways. This DVD
features vintage film footage of wooden roller coasters at Blackpool
Pleasure Beach, Redcar (the short-lived Giant Racer), Wonderland at
Cleethorpes, Clacton Pier (the magnificent Steel Stella) and the
Folkestone switchback railway. Rare film
also shows piers suffering from fires and drifting ships. |
