Memories II, another opportunity to take a stroll down memory lane
and rediscover some memorable events from bygone Southend.
With the help of the archives of the
Southend Standard and the Evening Echo and the personal
recollections of the town's folk and visitors, we recall the
chequered history of the Empire Theatre in Alexandra Street and the
Golden Hind. We remember some events of 1966 and the disastrous air
crash in Westcliff in 1951. The Pier fire of 1995 and the reopening
of the Kursaal are also recalled. All this and much more makes
Southend Memories II an hour of pure nostalgia.
