BITSoftheBEACH Gallery

Between 2000 and 2004 I put together a series of offbeat (albeit amateur) photographs from Blackpool Pleasure Beach which in their own way summed up the park's attention to detail for me. Here were images that I thought were sometimes funny, sometimes thought provoking, sometimes subtle and sometimes "in yer face". And yet whatever they were back then, I was willing to bet that most of them went unnoticed to many of the park's millions of visitors.

As at June 2004  - the sad time when Blackpool lost Mr Geoffrey Thompson and Mrs (Lilian) Doris Thompson -  these images still had the power to make me stop in my tracks and realise that the Pleasure Beach's experience was not just about the shows and rides alone.

It is very likely that as you read this, some of the images that I caught on camera will have now disappeared from the park altogether. I wonder how many of these "BITSoftheBEACH" will remain in the years to come?

Please enjoy these offbeat images of Blackpool Pleasure Beach taken during a pivotal time in its history. Thanks for viewing.
