The Submarine Voyage
opened in June of 1959
as part of the
Disneyland
reconstruction. This
attraction gave guests a
rare opportunity to
explore the depths of
the Disneyland Lagoon.
Now you can learn how
the idea to place a
submarine attraction in
Walt Disney’s Anaheim
theme park came about
and discover what
happened to the mermaids
that use to wave at
passing guests. Witness
the many sea creatures,
coral and plants within
the Disney Lagoon and
explore the lost city of
Atlantis, awe at the
many sunken ships and
travel to the icy caps
of the North Pole. Who
knows, you may even
catch a glimpse of a sea
serpent.
Sadly, the Submarine
Voyage closed its port
in September of 1998,
but fans of the vintage
attraction didn’t have
to wait long for its
replacement. In June of
2007, the Finding Nemo
Voyage opened, allowing
guests to journey the
under water depths with
Nemo and friends.
Within this 60 minute
DVD, Disney Legend and
Imagineer, Bob Gurr,
talks about his
contribution to the
submarine attraction and
even shares a comical
story about one of the
subs tipping over.
On the bonus feature,
Vessels of History,
voice over artist,
Raymond Macias, explores
the many vessels that
were honoured on the
Disneyland submarines.
